The history of “Lipao”, an extremely fine and delicate material which increases its radiance with extended use, can be traced back to the Rattanakosin era, gaining immense popularity during the reign of Rama the Fifth.
Even today, “lipao” is presented as crafts and furniture to the Thai royal family. Wise Wise’s romance with lipao started in Bangkok in 2000. A fern vine that grows in the forests of Southern Thailand, “lipao” is a precious material with limited yield since it cannot be cultivated by man. Ordinarily, vines that are 2-3mm in diameter are shaved even thinner as material for small crafts such as jewelry boxes and bracelets.
