Rattan - The star of eco materials, “Rattan”
WISE·WISE furniture building can be traced back to its encounter with this precious material called rattan. Rattan, found in tropical rainforests, is a climbing palm with strong vigorous vines.
It grows inside dimly lit jungles and uses its sharp thorns to wrap around other trees, growing up toward the sky in pursuit of light, sometimes growing to heights of several hundred meters.
In comparison to trees that take 50-100 years to grow, rattan is a versatile plant with the strength to grow back in 5-10 years after harvesting as long as its home, the jungle, is protected.
WISE·WISE uses “pulut”, a thin rattan of Indonesia that is 2-3 mm in diameter. The enamel contained in the outer skin of rattan acts as its protection and the substance which contributes to the material’s superior durability.
Round, light, and durable, rattan is easy to handle even for women and the elderly and its properties as a natural material offer a sense of peace, superior breathability, a unique texture, and warm touch to its users.
In today’s efficiency focused world of mechanical production, WISE·WISE’s rattan furniture built with time and care by the hands of skilled craftsmen will bring back memories of organic warmth left forgotten in the past.
